Furnace repair in Allouez

Allouez is the village between Green Bay and De Pere on the east side of the Fox River. It is an established place, not a 2000s growth ring. Lots are smaller, the tree canopy is old, and a great many houses date from the early and mid twentieth century through the postwar decades. Basements and chimneys are the norm. Forced air is common, and so are the problems that come with older duct systems: a return that is too small, supply runs added when a porch became a room, and a furnace replaced inside a basement that is now a laundry, a workshop, and a mechanical room at the same time.

Natural gas is the usual fuel in the village. Propane tanks are not the story here. Age and venting are. A masonry chimney that has served the house for decades may not be a safe vent for the appliance connected to it today, especially if a water heater and a furnace share a flue that was never lined for both. Spillage and carbon monoxide are the reasons a tune-up in Allouez should include a combustion check, not only a new filter. If the house still has radiators, say so. Some older homes along the river followed the same path as Astor and downtown Green Bay: hot water first, forced air only if a later owner converted the building. Those conversions deserve the boiler page as much as the furnace page.

The climate does not give these houses a milder season. Heating runs from September through May. Design lows are near -10 F. In a polar vortex the equipment runs almost continuously, and an undersized return that was a mild annoyance in October becomes a limit lockout in January. The furnace overheats, the burners shut down, and the house falls behind. That can look like a failed gas valve when the blower, the filter, or the ductwork is the real constraint. A clean filter and open return paths are worth doing before the visit. They are not a repair.

When you request scheduling, say Allouez specifically so the visit is not routed as a generic Green Bay call. Note furnace versus boiler. If the brand is readable on the cabinet, add it. You do not need a model number to get on the schedule. Published ranges are typical for the metro, not a quote for an older river-village house. The company that does the work sets the price after inspection. No license number or shop address is printed here.
